University is very expensive for everybody involved. Tuition fees are very high and have to be paid for every year. Then there are accommodation and food costs and the cost of going out to places to socialize; if you are unable to do that then you are severely restricting your chances of being able to make new friends and your time will be a lot more miserable. It’s bad enough for people doing a 3 year course; for some courses such as medicine, where you are studying for 7 years the costs escalate and leave you in a lot of debt. This is, of course, a bad thing as you will spend ages trying to pay the loans off once you qualify and start working.

There are, however, ways in which you can save yourself a lot of trouble as you are studying by getting paid as you do it. The trick is to prepare early and get lots of experience in the workplace. Get in with the right people and be sure to express your desire to succeed in the profession. They will look at you and see that you have potential. If you also have good grades then you may be able to gain funding from the workplace that will help you throughout the year. Scholarships require proof that you are undertaking the courses that you say you are, but once they have been claimed the extra money will be a God send and will give you lots of help.
